My spiritual upbringing was rooted in the church. I loved my church and Sunday School teachers. This was the beginning of my spiritual foundation. I was very involved in my church and participated in Sunday School, Youth Choir, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Leadership. I learned to trust God for everything

What was your spiritual upbringing like?
• Learning God’s word – being able to quote scriptures and know the address
• There was some application; however, looking back it was departmentalized

I probably answered most of this in the previous question.
As an adult, after being saved at age 40 is when I began to have a hunger for understand God’s Word. My parents had a bible study group that met quite frequently. They would rotate from house-to-house; and of course the enticer was food. But no eating took place until after the study time was over, and it was not rushed. I was 1 of 2 young adults, but her knowledge of the Word of God was awesome. They used cassette tapes to read the scriptures and would stop periodically and break them down. The first time I heard my mother speak I was in awe. My mother had this quiet, angelic way of carrying herself and I had never heard her talk that much. But that was my foundation, the start of me applying what I was learning to my life. My father and some other members of the group transitioned and things started to dwindle. I got connected with a friend and ended up going to another church which was totally different than the traditional baptist church I had gone to all of my life. My father was deceased but my mother was still living. She was upset. Not because of me going to another church, but because I was no longer to driver her to church (1/16th of a mile around the corner). But that was when I began a personal relationship with God.

What was your spiritual upbringing like? We went to church done what we’re told and no questions were asked. Do what was said and not what you see. We went to church but were never taught about the church or the Holy Spirit. I didn’t learn about the Holy Spirit until 2003.

I didn’t fully understand the Holy Ghost and tithing like I do know until I became an adult. I have a clearer understanding about it now. My dad didn’t go to church until I was an adult and after having his stroke. I can’t recall times going to church with my siblings all I recall was time with mom and dad.

I remember growing up going to church every Sunday and attending Sunday School. I started singing in the choir at a young age up to an adult. Mom sung in the Senior choir and I in the Intermediate choir. We would go to afternoon service all the time because we followed our pastor and one of the choirs would be singing.. I was also involved in the Youth Ministry, Church Clerk and reading the announcements on Sunday morning, Women’s ministry and coordinating events.
It would always be me and mom going to church; I also sung in the Workshop choir and the community choir my friend started. We traveled quite about singing praises unto the LORD. These days were complet joy loved singing and worshiping GOD through song. We were spreading the good news!

I remember going to church as a kid with my mother. After she passed away and I was adopted my foster parents went to church as well. I really did not like church I vowed never to go to church again once I was an adult. The preacher yelled all the time and I hated being yelled at. I thought the choir sang too many songs and I hated waiting in line to buy chicken dinners. My life was transformed years later after being invited to church by a elder friend Mrs. Evelyn. I heard how much God loved me. My upbringing from then on has been progressive.

As stated before, my mom took my little sister and I to church every Sunday. We attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. Easter Sunday was bitter sweet for me. I loved getting the new dress, new shoes, new hair do, new outfit for after church and of course the candy; however, our day started with daddy dropping us off at 5:45 for Sunrise service, we would have breakfast following service, slept on the church pew till Sunday School and Church service. By the time church was over I was tired. Not all the services was bad, but I vowed that when I grew up I was never going to church because of that dreaded long Easter Sunday. However, as long as I was in my mother’s house, I was going to church. My dad would make sure of that although he never went unless it was a special service like our baptism or certain programs we were in. I held true to my vow my I joined the Army. I didn’t go to church, except on Mother’s Day and wouldn’t you know it, Easter (lol). I didn’t start going to church on the regular until after I had my son in September of 1994. I was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany and just turned 30, and by Mar of 1995 I got serious and involved in the church, serving on every auxiliary there was, got saved in April and baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues in October of 1995 under the leadership of Pastor Larry and First Lady Phyllis Moore. Panzer Chapel Church of God In Christ (COGIC) truly gave me my foundation and pointed/shot my arrow in the right directions and I’ve been serving the Lord ever since.

My mom, when I was a child didn’t go to church with us most of the time she just put us on the church bus and off we went to Park Place Baptist church for years, I knew there was a God but I didn’t know about Jesus that much and I didn’t know about the HolyGhost until I became and adult with children of my own.
